Consumer Guide To Environmentally Helpful Outdoor Power Equipment

Snow Throwers

When winter snows blow in to cover up your driveway or sidewalk, the power and convenience of a snow thrower can make snow removal quick and easy. There are several different sizes of snow throwers on the market. These include: Small, lightweight 3hp electric powered snow throwers for short walkways, patios and steps.

Medium-sized 5hp to 8hp single-stage models for handling up to 12" of snow around suburban residential homes.

Powerful 8hp to 12hp or above, two-stage models for tackling winter's heavy snow and big jobs like large driveways and small retail parking areas.

Hefty garden tractor snow throwing attachments for clearing heavy snows off long driveways, parking lots and other large snow clean-up needs.

Single-stage snow throwers, powered by either 2-cycle or 4-cycle gasoline engines, use a single auger to clear a 24" path of snow and propel it from 5 to 55 feet. Some single-stage models offer a fold-down handle for compact storage.

For tougher, more demanding winter snow removal requirements, a double stage snow thrower uses a combination of a large front auger and a second impeller behind the front auger to offer maximum throwing power and performance.

Both single stage and double stage models offer self-propelled and electric start options. There are even snow cab attachments and light kits available for larger models.
