HOME > CONSUMER PRODUCT INFO > CONSUMER GUIDE > Consumer Guide To Environmentally Helpful Outdoor Power Equipment Yard Waste Legislation Environmentally-conscious state legislatures are significantly curtailing or banning outright the amount of trash that can be dumped into our country's overburdened landfills. Recycling of paper, glass, plastic and aluminum containers is common-place in many neighborhoods. And, homeowners are being asked to recycle grass clippings, leaves, twigs and other yard debris to help take some of the load off our landfills. This brochure has outlined ways you can help turn this problem into an advantage that saves time and money and helps your lawn look great while you preserve the environment. Various states and local jurisdictions have different restrictions that cover collection of grass clippings and other yard debris as follows: A. Complete ban - No pick-up of clippings or debris. B. Partial ban - Restricts amount to be picked up or time of pick-up. May require special bag or container. C. Voluntary program - Property owners encouraged to reduce yard waste pick-up by recycling through mulching, composting or other means. Check with your local environmental or natural resources government office to determine the exact requirements in your community. Remember: even if there are no restrictions that apply to your neighborhood, you can still help clean up the environment by recycling your yard waste.
