FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

KEEP YOUR OUTDOOR POWER EQUIPMENT ALIVE AND WELL AND RUNNING CLEAN - WITH A SPRING TUNE-UP

Alexandria, VA, (March 2000) - To be sure all lawnmowers and related equipment give top performances and run as clean as possible all season long, the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute (OPEI) has a few suggestions for smart owners this spring:

  • Refer to your operator's manual for proper tune-up instructions for your specific equipment,
  • Change the spark plug if necessary,
  • Clean or replace the air filter,
  • Check safety devices to ensure that they are attached and working,
  • Change the engine oil,
  • Fill the gas tank carefully to avoid spilling,
  • If you are not comfortable doing your own tune-ups, contact your nearest outdoor power equipment servicing dealer.

And for tune-up information specific to different types of equipment, there's a seasonal maintenance calendar posted on Cyberlawn, OPEI's home page on the Internet - http://opei.mow.org/ Remember: Be good to your outdoor power equipment and it will be good to you.

OPEI is a trade association whose membership is primarily composed of U.S. manufacturers of powered lawn and garden maintenance products, components and attachment supplies, as well as industry-related services. OPEI's domestic members manufacture in excess of 95% of the U.S. consumer retail market for gas and electric powered lawn and garden maintenance products.
