Mike Ariens Elected Chairman Of The Outdoor Power Equipment Institute

Napa, California, June 23, 2000 --- Mike Ariens, Chairman, Ariens Company, was elected Chairman of the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute (OPEI) during the Association's 48th Annual Meeting held in Napa, California.

In addition to his duties as Chairman of Ariens Company, Mr. Ariens is very active in the business community. He is currently a director with the following organizations: Wisconsin Public Service, Green Bay, Wisconsin; Schneider National, Inc., Green Bay, Wisconsin; Calumet County Bank, Brillion, Wisconsin; US Oil Company, Kimberly, Wisconsin; Interstate/Valweld, Appleton, Wisconsin; L.M. Becker Company, Appleton, Wisconsin; Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce, Madison, Wisconsin; Calumet Medical Center, Chilton, Wisconsin. Mr. Ariens also holds business/professional memberships in: Wisconsin Presidents' Organizations; Chief Executives Forum, Inc.; World Business Council. Mr. Ariens is also involved in both civic and diocesan church councils and activities.

Mr. Ariens attended St. Norbert College and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an MBA from Indiana University.

The Chairman of OPEI has a one-year term in accordance with OPEI bylaws.

OPEI is a trade association whose membership is primarily composed of U.S. manufacturers of powered lawn and garden maintenance products, components and attachment supplies, as well as industry-related services. OPEI's domestic members manufacture in excess of 95% of the U.S. consumer retail market for gas and electric powered lawn and garden maintenance products.
