Commercial Turf Care Equipment Shows Growth For FY2000

ALEXANDRIA, VA, December 2000- According to estimates by the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute (OPEI), shipments of Commercil Turf Care Equipment showed significant growth during model year 2000 (September 1, 1999 through August 31, 2000). Shipments of commercial walk-behind units were 110,974 for FY2000, compared to 99,735 in FY99 - an increase of 11.3%. Shipments of commercial riding units were 109,407 for FY2000, compared to 87,920 FY99 - an increase of 24.4%. These estimates represent total industry shipments destined to U.S. markets only.

OPEI is a trade association whose membership is primarily composed of U.S. manufacturers of powered lawn and garden maintenance products, components and attachment supplies, as well as industry-related services. OPEI's domestic members manufacture in excess of 95% of the U.S. consumer retail market for gas and electric powered lawn and garden maintenance products.
