WILLIAM DOCHERTY ELECTED VICE-CHAIRMAN OF THE OUTDOOR POWER EQUIPMENT INSTITUTE

Ponte Vedra, Florida, June 22, 2001ÑWilliam Docherty, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing, MTD Products Inc., was elected Vice-Chairman of the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute (OPEI) during the AssociationÕs 49th Annual Meeting in Ponte Vedra, Florida.

As Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at MTD, Mr. Docherty has responsibility for managing all elements of sales and marketing for the MTD brand portfolio which consists of MTD Pro, Cub Cadet, White Outdoor, Yard-Man by MTD, and Yard Machines by MTD.

Mr. Docherty joined MTD in the summer of 1970, and has just concluded his 31st year. Mr. Docherty also serves on the Board of Directors at MTD, Commercial Turf Products, and has most recently been elected to the Board at Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE). He is an active forum member at Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio. Mr. Docherty also holds positions on advisory councils with many major retailers in our industry.

The Vice-Chairman of OPEI chairs the convention activities and future planning efforts of the association. Mr. Docherty's term is for one year in accordance with OPEI bylaws.

OPEI is a trade association whose membership is primarily composed of U.S. manufacturers of powered lawn and garden maintenance products, components and attachment supplies, as well as industry-related services. OPEI's domestic members manufacture in excess of 95% of the U.S. consumer retail market for gas and electric powered lawn and garden maintenance products.
