FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
FRED
STRATTON HONORED BY OPEI
Alexandria,
VA, June 28, 2001-- During the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute's
49th Annual Meeting, OPEI Chairman, Mike Ariens, honored Frederick
P. Stratton with the association's Glenn Alexander Award. Mr.
Ariens said that this highly prestigious award is bestowed only
occasionally to individuals who have made exceptional contributions
to the industry. Fred Stratton had filled this bill for many years:
he has participated actively on the OPEI Board of Directors and
his insights and leadership have served OPEI well, no matter what
was at issue. As chairman and CEO of the Briggs and Stratton Corporation,
a major industry company, his support and commitment to OPEI's
goals and objectives has been invaluable, and he has always made
his company's key people available to serve on OPEI committees
that work hard on behalf of the industry.
Mr.
Ariens said, "Fred Stratton has been a friend, an advisor, and
a business partner to many of us in the industry."
Additionally,
Mr. Stratton is well-versed in the ways and means of Boards of
Directors: He serves as a director or trustee on over a dozen
other Boards in the business and education community including
Bank One Corporation, the Wisconsin Energy Corporation, the Metropolitan
Milwaukee Association of Commerce, member of the Board of Overseers,
Hoover Institution, Stanford University and the Senior Advisory
Committee for Engineering, Yale University. And in the past, he
has been active in more than a dozen civic, educational, business
and non-profit associations. He was born in Milwaukee and educated
at the old Milwaukee Country Day School; received a B.S. from
Yale University. He and his wife Anne have three children.
OPEI's
49th Annual Meeting was held in Ponte Vedra, Florida from June
21-23, 2001.
OPEI
is a trade association whose membership is primarily composed
of U.S. manufacturers of powered lawn and garden maintenance products,
components and attachment supplies, as well as industry-related
services. OPEI's domestic members manufacture in excess of 95%
of the U.S. consumer retail market for gas and electric powered
lawn and garden maintenance products.
