FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

OPEI TO RELEASE LEAF-BLOWER PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

August 2001, Alexandria, Virginia -- The Outdoor Power Equipment Institute (OPEI) has announced that it will welcome the fall season with a Public Service Announcement (PSA) titled "Neighborly Courtesy with Leaf Blowers." Scheduled to air from September 23 through October 6, 2001, the PSA will be part of the Old Farmer's Almanac Radio Report (OFA), a folksy, informative program covering gardening, weather lore, home repair and other topics of interest. The OFA Radio Report is distributed thought the United States on 655 radio stations.

OPEI President and CEO, Bill Harley, said, "OPEI encourages consumers to buy and use leaf blowers in a courteous, safe manner. We can't stress enough the importance of good sense." The PSA recommends that users work at reasonable hours, check local ordinances for operating times, lower the speed and use nozzle attachment to reduce sound.

The PSA can also be heard on OPEI's Cyberlawn Web site, http://opei.mow.org, by visiting the audio-visual room in the OPEI Library section of the site.

OPEI is a trade association whose membership is primarily composed of U.S. manufacturers of powered lawn and garden maintenance products, components and attachment supplies, as well as industry related services. OPEI's domestic members manufacture in excess of 95% of the U.S. consumer retail market for gas and electric powered lawn and garden maintenance products.
